WWII Veteran Milt Rackham describes his graduation from Boot Camp and his excitement and pride about joining the war effort.
"At the end of our Boot Camp
Graduation Ceremony,
the loud speaker came to life and proudly made an announcement. It
created a warm feeling of loyalty to my country and a readiness to fight anyone
that would dare seek to destroy her.
I don't remember the exact words, but for purposes of what happened
next, let me paraphrase the loud-speaker announcement.....
Ladies and Gentlemen. Let me tell you that from my view up here high on the review stand, these 2000 men are a magnificent sight. I have never seen a finer force of U.S. Navy graduates more prepared and more eager to defend their country. Join me in an ovation of appreciation as I say to them......Well Done Young Sailors.....and May God be With Youin the Days Ahead..... Until our job is Done. "
The crowd roared their appreciation."
